Boulder fountains are a beautiful addition to any backyard paradise. Here we create a custom carved fountain that we set onto the edge of an existing Koi pond. Enjoy
Koi Pond intake bay

Here’s a short video showing the intake bay skimmer in the pond we just finished in Asheville, Nc. An intake bay is a great way to keep leaf debris out of your backyard pond. Used especially in wooded areas with lots of leaf drop, the intake bay is a great alternative to a traditional skimmer box that can get filled up quickly in the fall season. #ashevillenc #nature #waterfall #pond #waterfeat...

Perfectly explained and a beautiful result 👏🏽
Thank you!! Ya it was fun to install. And a little stressful 😅😅🤣 But all good projects are
May I ask good sir, how much did this cost for the person? How much can one expect top pay to have this done at their home?
Good question It really depends on a few things Site access Size of boulder Location of the property And a few other details I can’t remember the exact price of this fountain But you could expect $4,000-$8,000 on average I think this feature was somewhere in the middle Around $6k They had pretty good access to the project area So we were able to bring a machine in to set the boulder without having to go across much landscape area Thanks!
At the risk of diluting the current Alien deluge, may want to use softeners on the trees you want to keep. scrap carpet works very well. keep up the good work.
🤣👊 Ya seriously This post was meant to help other builders. But turned into a masterclass on ancient alien technology 🤔🤷♂️😂 Anyway, thanks for your advise! Ya I have definitely updated some of my methods since posting this video 😅👍🤙👊❤️
Would love a boulder like that but unobtanium here in Chicago.
😂 Ya but you can find some good weathered limestone up there! Check with Refections Water Gardens They can probably help you out in your area!
Great tutorial and extra tips. Is there a way to routinely clean or disinfect these for birds?
Yes. The best way is to just pump the water out, pressure wash the fountain, and refill with fresh water Do this as often as needed. There are animal safe additives too, if you don’t want to drain it
@@livingwaterslandscapingash3119 thank you! I was unaware about animal safe additives
@@Yessssz No problem Ya there are a few different options Algaecide, that basically reduces oxygen in the water and starves out sting algae And there are water clarification products And beneficial bacteria too
You should be able to very easily attach some vinyl tubing to the output e.g. with a nylon barb connector, to drain the reservoir to wherever you like for water change.
@@herbiecactus6687 Very true A drain could be added to the basin if you don’t have access to a pump. I would recommend a bulkhead fitting on the bottom or side of the basin with a ball valve that you could open to drain it. But there’s always a risk for leaks when you cut a hole in the basin. The basin only holds a small amount of water so they are pretty easy to clean out.
What about future maintenance in the basin?
There is a small door in the basin to access the pump and clean out the basin.
I love this! Will you make me one? Please
Anytime!!😅🤷♂️👊❤️
Great narration. You're a natural in front of the camera. Beautiful finished work of art.
Thanks!
Good job caca
Thanks!
Made my back hurt just thinking about how much work that was
Ya 😂 It sure was. Probably 6 months of work for 6-8 guys
@@livingwaterslandscapingash3119 I bet looks good though
Ya came out great!
This was really useful. Many thanks.
Awesome. No problem 👊👊🙏🤙
Beautiful work. How long did you need to let the concrete pillars cure before filling with water?
Thanks! I can’t remember right now Probably a week. But concrete can cure underwater as long as it’s set. However it can change the ph of the pond if it leaches in. We haven’t had a problem with that. But could be recommend to seal the concrete prior to filling.
Digging the Ray Lynch
Heck ya !!! One of my faves!! But I got copyrighted for playing it🤦♂️🤦♂️🤣
That is so cool, awesome
Thank you so much!
Exactly what I’ve been looking for. Thank you! Please keep us with a updated version!
Will do!
Love it
Thanks! 👊👊👊
Awesome work!
Thanks!!👊❤️
Your work is AMAZING!! This is so cool.
Thank you!! We had fun with this one👊❤️
Nice! Have fun. Let me know if you have any more questions But sounds like you’re on top of it 👊👊🤙
Awesome Sounds great Send me some pics of the pond!
I definitely will!! Hopefully, we'll get the underlayment and liner in soon. This is all DIY with a shovel and pick axe in this AZ clay, so it's slow moving, but we're getting there😂. Learning and building as we go.
How do they take care of it in the winter?
You can leave the fountain running all winter if you want. It will create cool ice formations. However most of the time people will pull the pump out and drain any plumbing lines just to be safe.
Great job!! How much did this cost?
Thanks! That one was about $4000 if I remember correctly
Very nice!! What are you using to house the 3 pumps?
Thanks. I use 18 inch double wall ADS drainage pipe set vertically A lot cheaper then buying a brand name pump vault. A little time in fabrication but worth it. I can do 3 jobs or more for the same price as using a name brand pump housing. 🤷♂️🤷♂️
@livingwaterslandscapingash3119 THANK YOU SO MUCH for the info!! I just purchased an 18" by 20' piece. I'm going to try this on our pond expansion. I found some caps on Amazon. Do you just sit it in the pond, or should I cap the bottom? Thank you again. Much appreciated.
We usually pour a concrete pad on the bottom and set the pipes on that. So it makes cleaning easier and protects the liner. But caps would work too I guess Wish I had done a more detailed video on the construction. Next time
@@livingwaterslandscapingash3119 I truly appreciate all the info. Can't wait for the next video!
Hello again! What submersible pumps did you use? I want to run a 6000 bio fall, a small wetland, and jets. There are so many mixed reviews on submersible pumps 😫. Thank you!
beautiful work. looks great for a bird bath/drinking fountain
Thanks!! Ya the birds love it!
Amazing
Thank you!!
This is the most unique and best looking rock bubbler I've seen. But that seems like way less than 5000 GPH. Is there a valve on the pump? Or is the rock that big/matter of perspective?
Thanks!! And yes there is a valve on the pump to reduce flow as needed. I always go a little bigger on my pumps just in case. It’s always hard to guess what the flow is going to look like in the finished product 😅 Flow rate is more art then science sometimes. The pump doesn’t mind a little back pressure. Only downside would be that a larger pump would draw a small amount more electricity. But not drastically in this case. 👊👊🙏🙏
Awesome video!!! Wow!
YOU TALK TOO MUCH.....
Like in general? Or on the video? Thanks for you input
when ur a troll 🤢
So pretty <3
Thank you!
Do you guys have to call an electrician to run power for pumps located further from outlets or just run conduit underground/hidden? Thanks for the great content!
Ya if there’s not an outlet within 10 ft of the new pump, we always call our electrician to run a new line. Pumps should not be run off of an extension cord. It’s dangerous and not good for the pump😅👊🤙👍
🏆🏆🏆🙌 Beautiful work!
Thanks!!
Ive done a flagpole base bored into a boulder and it looks great, but this is absolutely stunning. This is now on my to-do this list for spring! Amazing work my friend!
Thanks! Ya there are a lot of different ways to do it. Good luck! Hope it comes out awesome
Well I got it done! I have an 800 gph pump on it now and will probably go bigger. The sound is still nice and relaxing though. Thanks again for the inspiration! ua-cam.com/video/ARr4EEqKGJw/v-deo.html
@@ninetails1553 Heck ya! Looks great good job!👊👊👊

This is awesome man! Wish i lived close to where youre located, id love to learn how to do this work. Those mountain views in your other videos are a plus too!
Thanks man! Ya I’m thankful to live in a beautiful place. 👊👊🙏
Just what I'm looking to do, and the material list at the end, such a nice touch. Thank you from Oakland CA
Thanks! Good luck on your project! Let me know how it goes
Superb
Thanks!
So Is that a hammer drill?? Or what kind is it
www.cessco.us/dp/Core_Drills/hand-held.html
It’s a wet/ dry diamond core drill. Not a hammer drill.
Excellent! 😊😊
👊👊❤️

❤
Would love to see a full video of this pond/waterfall
Thanks. Ya I’m working on that right now. Just finished that job. Check back soon
Looks very nice. How would you set this up so you can get to the pump/filter for maintenance?
Thanks! For this system, we used a prefabricated basin that has an access lid built into it. For easy access to the pump. Just move a little river rock away, and you can open the access hatch. Sorry I didn’t get that part on film. There are other ways to build the fountain with the pump location away from the base of the fountain. Such as, using an external pump. But depends on the site and size of fountain. Feel free to give me a call for more details. 828-301-8017 Thanks
He didnt how huh?
Nice natural looking fountain 💯❣️
Thanks!!👊👊🤙
What did you use to support the weight of the boulder??
Depends on the size of the boulder. Smaller boulders can be set directly on the basin. For this one we set some cinder blocks inside the basin, under the top plate. There’s many ways to do it. Some features we will lay down a liner and pour a concrete slab on top. Then mortar block to the slab to support the boulder.
so, if you were building the great pyramid at Giza, how would you do it?
Probably some kind of block and tackle crane. A large pulley system. I guess Never really tried to move anything that big by hand!😅
Also weight balancing. If you find the center point of a large boulder, and can get a block under it, you can put weight on one side and lift the other side up. Then continue to put small blocks near the center as it gets raised up. Never tried it, but heard it works.
ua-cam.com/video/E5pZ7uR6v8c/v-deo.html
It’s funny how popular this post got. It was made for landscapers moving small boulders. But I get a ton of comments about the pyramids! I don’t really know much about that😅😂✌️
@@livingwaterslandscapingash3119 Hilarious! Thank you!! 🙂
That's excellent work my man!

That's how they built the pyramids! No, but it still is a great puzzle.... the Great Pyramid.
